Diesel Program

Our Diesel program is a Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation (ASEEF) accredited program. This comprehensive course focuses on Medium and Heavy trucks. The training prepares you to work on over the road trucks, to mass transit, to diesel marine engines. The opportunities for graduates of this program are endless.

Preventative Maintenance (PM)

Our PM class covers all aspects of medium and heavy truck maintenance. you will learn for to do pre trip inspections, scheduled services, DOT requirements, minor repairs and more.

Truck Electrical

Our truck electrical program starts with what is an electron. From there we go into Ohms law, series circuits, parallel circuits and diagnostic strategies. You will learn how to read and interpret wiring diagrams and diagnose and repair truck electrical system from bumper to bumper including trailers. After wiring diagrams you will dive into computer controls on vehicle networking and multiplexing.

Brakes

Our truck brakes class is a complete course in hydraulic and air brake systems. You will learn hydraulic theory, how air brakes function, ABS operation and diagnosis, traction control and bearing replacement and adjustment.

Steering and Suspension

In this class you will learn the different types of truck suspensions, why they are used, how to diagnose tire wear and other steering and suspension problems. Later in the class you will learn about alignment angles and how to preform both truck and trailer alignments.

CDL

UAW-LETC has partnered with Salt Lake Community College to offer a Professional Truck Driving Course (CDL) to students enrolled in the Diesel Technician Program at the Clearfield Job Corps Center in Clearfield, Utah. This intensive program is designed to prepare students for an entry-level truck driving position as a Class “A” CDL driver. The program has two courses with units of study that cover basic and advanced operating practices, defensive driving, inspections, life skills and essential activities such as trip planning, map reading, hours of service, cargo handling and an employment workshop. The Class A (No restrictions) license is intended for driving a commercial motor vehicle equipped with air brakes. Vehicles with a gross total weight rating of 26,001 pounds, requiring a towed unit of 10,001 pounds or more (i.e. tractor-trailer.).

Students interested in attending the Professional Truck Driving Program must be enrolled in the UAW-LETC Diesel Program and need to meet certain eligibility requirements to be accepted into this program.

Engine Construction

In this class students will do complete teardown and reassembly starting with a 4 cylinder and finishing with large inline 6 truck diesel engines. Students will finish this class with an understanding of operation and diagnosis or diesel engine assemblies.

Engine Diagnostics

This class picks up where the Engine Construction class leaves off. You will learn about the electronic side of diesel engines. On these modern engines everything is controlled by a computer. Sensor and driver input are used to determine the engine response. Knowledge of these systems is critical to become a high level technician.

Drive Trains

This class covers transmissions use in modern heavy trucks. You will learn to service diagnose and repair automatic, manual, and automated manual (AMT) transmissions.

Final Drives

Hydrualics

This class teaches skills that are used in many jobs. You will learn about hydraulic system design, fluid schematics, pump and ram rebuilding, hydraulic circuit designs and system diagnostics.

Air Conditioning

This class covers AC theory, heat transfer, components, diagnosis, component R&R, recharging and more. These activities will take place in the classroom and shop, consisting of written and hands-on exercises. Prerequisites: P.M. and electrical

Professional Development Program (PDP)

Our PDP program was developed to help our students be better prepared for life after Job Corps.
